Tarot spreads
A spread is a set of questions, one per card. The card is the answer; the position is the question. Get the positions right and three cards say more than ten laid out badly.
Past, Present, Future
3 cardsThe three card spread everybody starts with, and the one most readers come back to. One card for what brought you here, one for where you are, one for where it is heading.
- 1. What is behind you: asks what brought this about.
- 2. Where you are: asks what is actually going on right now.
- 3. Where it is heading: asks what this becomes if nothing changes.
Card of the Day
1 cardOne card, for today. The shortest reading there is and the easiest one to build a habit on.
- 1. Today: asks what to keep an eye on today.
Situation, Action, Outcome
3 cardsThree cards, aimed at a decision rather than a story. What is really going on, what to do about it, and what follows if you do.
- 1. The situation: asks what this actually is, underneath how it feels.
- 2. What to do: asks the action the cards favour.
- 3. What follows: asks where that action leads.
Two Paths
5 cardsFive cards for a fork in the road. One for where you stand, two for each road, and one for what you are not taking into account.
- 1. Where you stand: asks what you are actually choosing between.
- 2. The first path: asks what taking the first option is like.
- 3. Where it leads: asks where the first option ends up.
- 4. The second path: asks what taking the second option is like.
- 5. What you are not seeing: asks the thing neither option has accounted for.
The Heart of It
5 cardsFive cards that work inwards. The surface, what is underneath it, what is underneath that, what is in the way, and what would help.
- 1. What it looks like: asks the version of this you have been telling people.
- 2. What is underneath: asks what is actually driving it.
- 3. The heart of it: asks the thing at the centre.
- 4. What is in the way: asks what stops you addressing it.
- 5. What helps: asks what actually moves this.
Between Two People
5 cardsFive cards about a relationship, romantic or otherwise. You, them, what is between you, what each of you is not saying, and where it goes.
- 1. You in this: asks what you are bringing to it.
- 2. Them in this: asks what they are bringing to it.
- 3. What is between you: asks the thing the two of you have made together.
- 4. What is unsaid: asks what neither of you has put into words.
- 5. Where it goes: asks where this is heading as it stands.
The Week Ahead
4 cardsFour cards: the week's weather, the thing to watch, the thing to do, and what it adds up to.
- 1. The weather: asks the general shape of the week.
- 2. What to watch: asks what could catch you out.
- 3. What to do: asks the one thing worth doing.
- 4. What it adds up to: asks where you end the week.
